Callithricidae
Tamarins ['ta-m&-r&n] and Marmosets [mär´muzet] make up the
Callithricidae, the most primitive monkeys. They do not have prehensile tails
and their thumbs are not opposable. They have claws on all of their digits except
for their big toes, which have nails. Their size ranges from the size of rats to
the size of small domestic cats. It is common for them to have twin births and
the infants are usually carried on the backs of their father and only go to
their mothers for nursing. Both lack the ability to change their facial expressions.
